Privacy Policy

Last updated:

Beela Focus is an iPhone app that helps you focus. You set a timer, stay with it, and your Beela community grows. This policy explains what information the app and this website collect, why, and what you can do about it.

Beela Focus is operated by Benjamin Chong (“we”, “us”). You can reach us at support@beelafocus.app.

The short version

1. Information you give us

Your account. You sign in with an email link, with Apple, or with Google. There are no passwords.

What you type. The names you give your Beelas, and the optional name and category you give a focus session. Please do not put sensitive personal information in these.

Messages to us. If you email support, we receive your email address and whatever you write.

2. Information created as you play

A copy of your game data is also kept on your phone so the app works offline. Your sign-in session is stored in the iPhone’s Keychain.

3. Information collected automatically

Purchases. If you buy Acorns, Apple processes the payment. We never receive your card or bank details. We use a service called RevenueCat to confirm purchases with Apple. RevenueCat receives a random account identifier (not your email address or name), details of the purchase, and technical information about your device and app version. We receive and keep the transaction identifier, the product, the time and the outcome, so that each purchase is credited exactly once and refunds can be applied.

Crash reports. When the app crashes or hits an error, it may send a report to our error-reporting service, Sentry. A report contains the technical details of the error, your device model, iOS version and app version. Before a report leaves your phone, the app removes Beela names, session names, any text you typed and anything that looks like an email address.

Product analytics. We record events about how the game is used, such as a focus session starting or finishing, its length, Acorns earned and spent, and screens reached. These are linked to your random account identifier and to a random identifier for this installation of the app, not to your name or email address, and are processed by our analytics service, PostHog. We use them to understand whether the app is helping people focus and to fix what is not working. They never include names or text you typed.

Notifications. The app can notify you when a focus session or break ends. These notifications are scheduled on your phone itself. We do not send push notifications and do not collect a push token.

4. What we do not collect

We do not collect your precise or approximate location, contacts, calendar, photos, camera, microphone, health or fitness data, browsing history, or Apple’s advertising identifier. We do not build advertising profiles.

5. How we use information

We use the information above to:

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, our legal bases are: performing our contract with you (running the app you signed up for), our legitimate interests (keeping the service secure and working, and understanding how it is used), and legal obligations (keeping purchase records).

We do not use your information for automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.

6. Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.

We use a small number of service providers that process information for us, under contracts that limit them to that purpose:

ProviderWhat it does for usWhat it handles
SupabaseAccount sign-in and the app’s databaseAccount and game data
AppleSign in with Apple; App Store paymentsSign-in identifier; payment (handled by Apple under its own policy)

SentryCrash and error reportsTechnical error details, with names, typed text and email addresses removed
PostHogProduct analyticsGame usage events linked to random account and installation identifiers, never names or typed text
VercelHosting this websiteStandard web request information

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect the rights, safety or property of our users or ourselves, or as part of a merger, sale or reorganisation, in which case this policy continues to apply to your information.

7. Deleting your account and how long we keep information

Deleting your account. In the app, open Settings and choose to delete your account. Deletion requires a connection, takes effect immediately and cannot be undone. It removes your account and your game data from our servers: your sign-in details, focus sessions, Beelas and their names, Acorns, Momentum, achievements and items. The copy on your phone is cleared as well. If you cannot use the app, email support@beelafocus.app from the address on your account and we will delete it for you.

What we keep after deletion. We keep the record of purchases made with money (the transaction identifier, product, time and outcome) with the link to your account removed. We need this to prevent the same purchase being credited twice, to handle refunds and disputes, and for tax and accounting. Apple keeps its own records of your purchases under its privacy policy.

Otherwise, we keep your account and game data for as long as your account exists. Crash reports are kept for a limited period and then deleted. Backups that contain deleted data are overwritten on a rolling schedule.

Signing out, or deleting the app from your phone, does not delete your account.

8. Where information is stored and how it is protected

Your information is stored on servers in the United States. If you use Beela Focus from elsewhere, your information is transferred to and processed in that country, which may have different data-protection laws from yours. Where the law requires it, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers, such as standard contractual clauses with our providers.

We protect information with encryption in transit, access controls that let each account read only its own data, and by keeping secrets off your phone. Rewards and purchases are decided on our servers, not on the phone. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we learn of a breach that affects you, we will tell you as the law requires.

9. This website

This website does not use cookies or analytics, and it has no forms or accounts. Our hosting provider, Vercel, processes standard request information, such as your IP address and browser type, to deliver the pages and protect the site.

10. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to ask for a copy of your information, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict certain processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent where we rely on it. California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it, to delete it, to correct it, and not to be discriminated against for using these rights. We do not sell or share personal information as California law defines those terms.

To use any of these rights, email support@beelafocus.app from the address on your account. We will answer within the time the law allows, and we may need to confirm that the request comes from you. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you can also complain to your local data-protection authority.

11. Children

Beela Focus is made for adults. It is not directed to children, and you must be at least 13 years old to use it (16 in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom). We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.

12. Changes and contact

If we change this policy, we will post the new version here and change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will also tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
